On the 25th of January 2022, President Muhhamadu Buhari launched the national policy on 5G for Nigerians digital economy, Abuja.
During the launch, the president said the federal Government will make full use of the opportunities that 5G provides for the economy, security and well being of the nation.
Speaking on the benefits of 5G technologies, the president noted that it can support virtually every sector of the economy including enhanced connectivity, improved health care support for education while fostering smart cities, boasting agriculture among other advantages
Speaking further, the president revealed that the 5G technology can play a key role in boosting efforts towards enhancing security across the nation, as it will support security institutions with real time communication given the fact that 5G is faster than earlier digital technologies. He added that the policy will create a platform for the creation of jobs that supports digital economy.
President Buhari assigned the minister of communications and digital economy prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim to supervise the implementation of the policy being done by the Nigerian communications commission with the help of government institutions
