President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu won’t compromise democratic ideals, values – Kashim Shettima

By Basiru and Ibrahim

Vice President Kashim Shettima has promised to use his position to continue to ensure unbreakable fraternal bond between the executive and the legislature, saying President Bola Tinubu remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.

Accordingly, he assured the leadership of the National Assembly of the President’s avowed commitment to entrenching democratic ideals and values through collaborative partnership with all arms of government.

The Vice President spoke on Friday when he declared open a retreat for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly at the Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

He said the unrivaled democratic credentials of President Tinubu, which include legislative experience, will continue to rub off on the entrenched and valuable governance style of the President, especially as it borders on respect of the rule of law, adherence to separation of powers as well as deference for constitutional rights.

Vice President Shettima described the composition of the Federal Government as well as the leadership of the National Assembly as historical, unique and a major pathway to Nigeria’s unprecedented development.

This, he said, is more so that the expectations of Nigerians would be met regardless of the present challenges.

The Vice President stated: “For the first time in our history, all the elected heads of our branches of government are produced by the hallowed halls of the National Assembly. For the first time in our history, the heart of the executive branch of our government is serviced by the alumni of the National Assembly. Both the Chief of Staff and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President are proud alumni of the National Assembly. The Secretary to the Federal Government is one of us.

“We cannot, therefore, afford to go to war. Not because we are going to overlook each other’s transgressions, but because you are going to engage with those who know the gravity of your work and would never take you for granted.”

Harping on the need for peaceful coherence among the arms of government, Vice President Kashim Shettima said given the composition of the Nigeria National Assembly it has become emphatic that ranks are closed in the bid to give unprecedented service delivery and democratic pact to the Nigerian people.

There’s no place in this country where you can find a fraternal bond as enduring as the ones that bind the members of the National Assembly. From converging on Abuja to water the dreams, debate the needs, and mitigate the fears of this diverse nation, we have forged friendships that defy the stereotypes of our differences. Term after term, election after election, old and new members return and exit, but the burden of managing a diverse nation has ensured that we cannot afford to tread the path of divisions,” the VP noted.

He further reiterated the need for national cohesion, saying it has become non-negotiable if the country’s potentials must be fully harnessed and tapped for prosperity and generality of all Nigerians.

“You have a President and a Vice President who are one of you and recognize the sacrifices you make. President Bola Tinubu has, with utter certainty, reassured us that we are not in government to go to war with the National Assembly. We are here to collaborate and march towards shared values.

Governance is a collective responsibility, not a personal endeavour. Our most significant achievements were attained through cooperation and harmony. This is what we seek from you because we are brothers and sisters in pursuit of a country that serves all of us.

The National Assembly is a complete spectrum of human experience. This is where you will witness eloquent testimonies of your colleagues in defence of reason. This is where you will witness profound debates that will dismantle your age-long assumptions. But, in the end, you will realize we are all bound by our fidelity to the ideals of democracy,” the Vice President charged the lawmakers.

Earlier, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Professor Abubakar O. Sulaiman, thanked President Bola Tinubu for his continued support and deepened respect for legislative independence and harmony.

He said the Institute remains committed to working with the 10th Assembly in improving legislative governance.

Edo Governor, Obaseki Asks Deputy, Shaibu To Drop His Governorship Ambition Before Accepting Apology

By Isah Idris rugoji

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has told his embattled deputy, Philip Shaibu, to forget about his governorship ambition as a condition for him (Obaseki) to accept his public apology.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Philip Shaibu begged his principal to forgive him for all his “wrongdoings.”

Shaibu, who has been locked in a war of attrition with the governor over his ambition to succeed him as the next governor Edo State, had made the plea in an interview with journalists last week.

Reacting to Shaibu’s plea, Governor Obaseki said his deputy must drop his governorship ambition before the rift between them can be resolved amicably, according to several sources who informed PM News Nigeria.

Obaseki, who returned from his yearly holiday overseas over the weekend, stated that he would have no business with Shaibu until he demonstrated perfect commitment to him by publicly renouncing his governorship ambition.

The governor reportedly summoned all Edo executive members to Lagos for a two-day session dubbed “Exco retreat with Mr Governor.”

The deputy governor was neither alerted nor invited to the meeting, which took place last Saturday and Sunday.

According to the sources, the State Executive Council meeting for this week was held in Lagos till Monday, the 25th. With the exception of the Deputy Governor, all Exco members were invited to the meeting.

According to reports, Obaseki has threatened to withdraw Shaibu’s security vote and bar him from all government activities, including Exco meetings, if he participated in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries.

To prevent public criticism, the governor was alleged to have instructed his handlers to schedule an Excos lecture a day before the meeting to allow third parties to participate, so that the meeting would not be regarded as a formal but emergency Exco meeting.

Tinubu Government Is Intervening To Ensure Oil Price Stability But Not Returning Fuel Subsidy – APC Party

By Muhammad and zaharadeen

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the President Bola Tinubu government is intervening to ensure “some measure of price stability and predictability” in oil but it does not amount to the return of the fuel subsidy.

The APC also scolded Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, over his claim on Sunday that the President Bola Tinubu’s administration thrived on lies and deceits.

In the statement tagged “The 10 lies of the APC-led federal government”, Shaibu had lambasted President Tinubu for using propaganda to deceive Nigerians.

According to him, the current administration was only interested in lying to the masses instead of striving to rescue them from the bad governance they suffered in the last eight years.

Reacting in a statement issued on Monday night, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, chided Atiku’s aide, saying he was still struggling to come to terms with the serial defeats they suffered at the presidential poll and the election petitions tribunal.

Morka said, “In his pathological and cynical flippancy, Atiku’s aide delved into matters he clearly does not understand or lacks the constitutive capacity to understand as a result of post-electoral traumatic stress disorder arising from his boss’ serial electoral failure.

“That Shaibu described as “lies”, the administration’s courageous decisions to remove fuel subsidy, harmonise the foreign exchange regimes, and sign the Students’ Loan Act into law, only buttresses his poor understanding of economic development and governance. Shaibu’s claim that fuel subsidy is back is not correct. The government’s intervention to ensure some measure of price stability and predictability does not amount to the return of the ruinous fuel subsidy of the recent past.

President Bola Tinubu has asked a United States District Judge, Nancy Maldonado, to order Chicago State University against the release of his privileged information

By Muhammad Bashir

Tinubu, in a motion filed on Monday by his lawyer, Christopher Carmichael, pleaded with the university to hide his admission records, transcripts and gender and release only his certificate to the legal team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Carmichael maintained that “the most critical fact has already been clearly and unequivocally established” by Tinubu’s alma mater, Chicago State University.

The motion filed by the lawyer partly read: “The most critical fact has already been clearly and unequivocally established by Chicago State University: Intervenor was awarded the degree as he stated. This point is irrelevant to the applicant because he is not seeking anything more than opposition research on a political opponent.

“The magistrate judge clearly erred in granting the application for discovery and concluding that Chicago State University must respond to the document and deposition subpoenas. That conclusion should be set aside and the application should be denied because the information sought cannot be used and therefore is not ‘for use’ in the foreign proceedings.

“Even if a narrow subset of information can be considered ‘for use’ in the foreign proceeding, that is limited to the diploma submitted to INEC. Fishing expeditions into other documents and more document productions must be precluded.”

Politics Nigeria earlier reported that Atiku had secured an order from a US magistrate, Jeffrey Gilbert, for Chicago State University to make Tinubu’s academic records available to his legal team.

The documents sought by Atiku, through his counsel, Angela Liu, include the record of Tinubu’s admission and acceptance at Chicago State University, dates of attendance, degrees, awards and honours attained by the president at the university, among others.

‘As a crowned prince, I don’t collect bribe’ – Police PRO

By Zaharaddeen Usamatu

Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has said that he does not collect bribe or gifts of any kind.

Adejobi said this on Monday while responding to an X (Twitter] user who asked him to “swear by his village deity” that he had never accepted a bribe since joining the Police Force.

The user posed the question after Adejobi wrote: “Police administrative bail is free. If anyone demands bail money, you too demand an invoice or receipt to prove payment. If he can’t issue it, dont pay. That is a fraud. I have said this severally. Thanks”.

The man went on to ask Adejobi if he had ever been involved in bribery.

Adejobi responded saying that since joining the police force in 2005, he has never accepted bribe.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that as a crowned prince of Owu, it would be “ridiculous” for him to accept bribes.

“I have answered this. PR is in me. I joined NIPR in 2004 before I joined the police in 2005. I have been a PR man before I even applied to join the police. I even reject gifts. Many people on Twitter have been willing to recharge my phone, but i appeal to them not to do.

“Those who know me know I reject gifts, let alone bribe. I am a crowned prince of Owu, so it’s ridiculous to take a bribe. If you do well, Nigerians are very nice and ready to appreciate you, and bless you in all areas, if you are a nice officer,” the police PRO wrote.

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over the academic records of President Bola Tinubu

By Muhammad Bashir

Atiku claims president Tinubu has something to hide over his academic records with the Chicago State University.

Speaking through his Media Aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku expressed hope that Nigerians will not have a heart attack with what Tinubu is hiding.

He made the remark in reaction to a motion filed by Tinubu challenging the Northern District of Illinois order directing the Chicago State University to release his academic records within two days.

The ruling of the court followed a case instituted by Atiku, who is challenging the victory of Tinubu in the presidential poll held on February 25.

But, a motion filed by Tinubu’s lawyers argued that a magistrate should only report and recommend to the district judge in such matters and not to make a final order for immediate compliance.

Reacting, Ibe said Atiku’s stance on Tinubu’s academic records will soon be known.

A statement by Ibe reads: “It should be now obvious even to the blind that Tinubu is hiding something in his records at the Chicago State University, and even elsewhere.

“I do hope whatever it may be, it will not be of a scope that will give Nigerians a heart attack. Nigerians will soon see the true position of Atiku on the records of Tinubu at CSU. It is just a matter of time.
