Devolution of Powers: Kano Assembly Joins Call For State Police

The Kano State House of Assembly has joined the call for the establishment of state police and devolution of powers to state and local governments.

The state assembly upholds these two demands form part of the calls for “true federalism” in the state at the just concluded public hearing for the review of the country’s constitution, Daily Trust reports that.

The Kano state assembly speaker Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari made the call for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution to enable the creation of state police and other security outfits to address the current insecurity challenges in the country.

The Speaker of the House, Chidari said the underlining aim of the retreat were to familiarize House of their role in fighting insecurity in the nation.

The House asked that the Legislative budget and research office be resuscitate statistical data of proposed bills and motions as well as an easy understanding of budget documents to the Honorable House and the staff of the House.

The call was contained in a communiqué issued by the assembly, signed by the Speaker, Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, at the end of the National Assembly retreat held in Kano.
