Federal Government Developed a Nationals policy on Science and Technology Education

The federal government of Nigeria has developed national Policy on Science and Technology Education and its Implementation Guidelines to outline how science and technology would be taught and assessed in schools.

This was disclosed by Permanent Secretary to the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, at the inauguration in Abuja, yesterday

Sonny Echono said the day marks a significant milestone in the quest to reposition education in Nigeria, scientifically and technologically.

He also added that people are all aware that our world is being transformed by science and technology which provides the opportunity for our youths to bring about innovations.

However, Echonno said this is a welcome development as Nigeria is part of the globe and cannot afford to take the back seat in the comity of nations.

He said the theme of the workshop, ‘Uniting for a Skilled Nigeria through the implementation of the Science and Technology Education Policy’ is apt as it calls for synergy between all stakeholders in the implementation of the policy.

Meanwhile, Sonny Echonno also highlights the pre-service and in-service training of teachers of science and technology, teacher demand and supply, provision of science infrastructures such as laboratories, workshops, equipment and others across the nation.

Finally Echono also noted that the ongoing efforts establish skills acquisition centres across the country will largely be driven by science, technology and innovation.
