TINUBU STUNS WAILERS OVER HIS SOURCE OF WEALTH

By Zaharaddeen Usamatu

“I was a Millionaire in Dollars before I became Governor” ~Tinubu

“Please stop deliberately misleading our Youths. Any Nigerian who was smart enough to invest a mere N1.8m in Apple Corporation shares in 1980, will be worth more than N10 Trillion today.

Our Youths are deliberately being misled by those who never saw a million dollars until they got into public office or became banking executives and started stealing.

A $1,000 daily basic travel allowance of a good business executive in 1990, invested into Apple Corporation shares, is today worth at least $2.5 million dollars.

Some of us still alive today, received per diem of $1000 per day, locally and abroad in the private sector in the 1990s. I bought my first computer and professional IT Tools, outrightly with such per diem in 1986.

Call a thief a thief. Let rogues call themselves rogues, without using the collective “we are all rogues”. Those who imported Tokunbo cars for $5,000 or new cars with $10,000 in 1990 to show off, instead of investing in Apple shares for example, should not assume all today’s wave-making multi-billionaires in politics and business, are rogues like them.

Please tell the youths the truth. I Asiwaju Tinubu was a millionaire in dollars as a NADECO chief at least 10 years before I became the governor of Lagos State. Let others openly declare the sources of their billions.

The reality today is still that creative and very intelligent youths will still earn allowances in dollars without needing to lie as internet trolls. As liars they will only lose credibility and respect, as they grow older. Let the 2023 Presidential campaigns be on issues and not lies”.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PAID 169.4 BILLION NAIRA AS SUBSIDY IN AUGUST

By Ibrahim saminu

Despite the numerous assurances by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the subsidy is gone, Daily Trust’s finding shows that the federal government paid N169.4 billion as subsidy in August to keep the pump price at N620 per litre.
There have been several reports suggesting that the current price stagnation despite the worsening exchange rate and international crude price crossing $95 a barrel suggests a return of subsidy.

A document by the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), sighted by our reporter yesterday, showed that in August 2023, the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) paid $275m as dividends to Nigeria via NNPC Limited. NNPC Limited used $220m (N169.4 billion at N770/$) out of the $275m to pay for the PMS subsidy. Then NNPC held back $55m, illegally.

The revelation by FAAC effectively indicates that the subsidy is back and NNPC is now taking NLNG dividends to pay the subsidy. Subsidy payment under former President Buhari leve the cunry with the highest amount spent on subsidising petrol in Nigeria’s history.
According to oil and gas industry reports conducted by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), the cost of petrol subsidy from 2015 to 2020 was N1.99 trillion.

Also reports by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), showed that petrol subsidy cost N1.57 trillion in 2021 alone and another N1.27 trillion from January to May 2022.
The government thereafter budgeted of N3 trillion to cover petrol subsidy costs from June 2022 to June 2023.

An aggregation of the entire costs showed that under President Buhari the government spent N7.83 trillion on petrol subsidies.

By isa idris rugoji

Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, visited the scene where gunmen ambushed and killed some security operatives in the early hours of Tuesday.

The sad incident, which claimed the lives of some operatives of a joint security task force team, happened in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Reacting to the sad incident on Tuesday, Uzodinma, in an X post, expressed his sadness, assuring citizens that justice will be served.

He wrote, “I was saddened at the news of an ambush by armed men, which led to the death of some security personnel on duty at Umuezeala Owerre in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

“I have visited the scene of the crime, this barbaric act is unacceptable and I have directed a collaborative effort amongst the security units for justice.

“However, I assured our people not to exercise any fear of reprisal attack or hostility, even as I appeal for cooperation from the community.

let’s not be dismayed by this, as it does not in any way unbalance our ongoing campaign against criminality and its associated vices in our dear State.

Let us be rest assured that we will track those behind this heinous crime and bring them to book. Once more, I commiserated with the security agencies whose men were involved in the ugly incident.

Moreover, The Government will provide every necessary support to ensure that all officers and men of our security agencies are encouraged by serving justice.

KANO: NNPP CHAIRMAN FAULT TRIBUNAL VERDICT,  APPEAL FOR CALM

By Basiru Abdulsalam

Forum of Stage  Chairmen under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has faulted the judgement of the governorship election tribunal in Kano State which sacked its candidate, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The party chairmen, in their reaction to the judgement, said the outcome of the election showed that the Kano people voted for Governor Yusuf after they rejected thie then ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

They however appealed to members to remain calm, adding that party leaders are on top of the situation and the legal team is up to the task ahead.

In a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the forum, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi and Barr. Rambi Ibrahim Ayala, respectively, inferred that the judgement lacked a tinge of justice.

Recall that the Kano State election petition tribunal had on Wednesday declared Dr. Nasiru Gawuna of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the March 18 governorship election.

The verdict has been generating different reactions, including a declaration of curfew by the state government.

However, the forum of chairmen said it was disappointing listening to the zoom judgement whereby a party that was allegedly openly rejected by the electorates at the poll was declared winner.

No doubt about the fact that the Kano people voted for Governor Yusuf. They rejected the then sitting party because they wanted a fresh breath.

It is crystal clear that some people have ambushed that judgement but our strong faith in the judiciary will make our party challenge this at the appellate court.

We stand as one, we are not moved. The Kano people freely gave our party this mandate and we are sure the victory at the end.

Our Impact On Nigerians Will Define Our Legacy ~shetima

By Basiru Abdussalam

R-L: Vice President Kashim Shettima; Professor of Forest Economics, Prof. Oluwayemisi Grace Arowosoge, and director of special duties, Federal Ministry of Education, Subairu Abdullahi, during a meeting of Shettima with his classmates, from University of Ibadan Alumni Association, at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

Given the expectations of Nigerians and the high hopes the world places on Nigeria, the Tinubu administration will ensure the country’s fortune gets a massive boost in growth and development.

This was the assurance given by Vice President Kashim Shettima when he hosted members of his University of Ibadan Postgraduate Alumni, as well as members of the 1989/1990 set of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) whom he served with in Calabar.

Speaking in his office at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, the Vice President in a statement by his media aide , Stanley Nkwocha noted that the administration’s impact will hugely be its legacy, hence, the commitment of the government towards improving the livelihood of Nigerians.

Addressing the University of Ibadan Postgraduate Alumni, Vice President Shettima said the transient nature of human life demands that he should recognise that both him and President Tinubu are just first among equals in Nigeria, and are holding a trust on behalf of the Nigerian people.

The VP stated: “I always believe that power is a humbling experience. We spend more of our lives outside power than in power. And most importantly I see it as a gift from God. Asiwaju and I are occupying the prime positions in this country, not because of our intellectual acumen or political sagacity, but purely by the grace of God.

“We do not occupy our positions because of our physical prowess, and certainly not because of our pedigree. There are people of superior pedigree than us. It is a gift from God and a call to serve humanity for a very short span of time and the impact we make in the lives of our people will determine our positions here and in the hereafter.

Earlier, Prof. Oluwayemisi Arowosoge who led the University of Ibadan Postgraduate Alumni called on the Tinubu administration to prioritise enhanced agricultural production by promoting an all-year-round agricultural system, with focus on value addition.

Katsina Monarch Breaks Silence After Compulsory Retirement

By Darda’u Kabir

The deposed districts head of Kuraye in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Ahmadu, has reacted to his purported retirement by the Katsina Emirate Council.

Daily Trust recalls that a statement from the emirate said the monarch was stripped of his title of Sarkin Kurayen Katsina on the orders of the Katsina State government.
However, the director of press to the secretary to the state government, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua, in a press statement, said that the retirement was based on the recommendation of the Katsina Emirate Council.

Reacting to the development through a press release, Alhaji Ahmadu said, “It is against my wish and desire to respond to the two letters dated today the 18th of September 2023, which have gone viral on my purported retirement as the District Head of Kuraye.
“The first letter was received by me from the respected Katsina Emirate Council, which partly states that I was retired based on the instruction from the state government that I should be so retired.

“The second letter was in the form of a press release by the State Government Director of Press, which stated that I was retired based on the approval of the recommendation by the Katsina Emirate Council on a purported offence of presiding over a marriage contract without a medical certificate, as one of the parties is HIV positive.

The monarch added that indeed, the two persons in question (the couple) approached him to preside over their marriage as the legal guardian of one of them.

He explained that as the law provided on stigmatisation of people with HIV, he led them to the relevant consult medical doctor and later the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA).

“They were appropriately counselled on this marriage and they both agreed to abide by the rules involved. In such cases, it is well known that where one is, or both of the parties are HIV positive the rule on stigmatisation and discrimination precludes any issue of a medical certificate.

“All the facts of this case, including the letter of agreement by the man, the drugs recommended by the medical doctor, the SACA counselling and the agreement on confidentiality were presented to the state government. Let the public that has been exposed to this unjust action be the judges,” he said.
It was not clear whether the monarch was given the opportunity to give his own part of the matter before the said retirement or not.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is wearing a black eye patch to cover up injuries to his face after getting into a jogging accident over the weekend.

By Abdulrahman salisu

“Looking forward to the memes,” the chancellor posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, along with a photo of him with an eye patch covering his right eye and several scrapes on his face.

“Thanks for the good wishes, looks worse than it is!” he added.

His spokesman said the chancellor was doing well given the circumstances. “He was in quite a good mood this morning, but still looks a bit battered.”

He said the photo had been released “so that everyone can get used to what he will look like in the next week or two.”

65-year-old Scholz fell while jogging over the weekend and was therefore forced to cancel his participation in an election campaign kick-off in the western state of Hesse.

The accident is said to have occurred on the chancellor’s regular route near his home in Potsdam. Scholz had stumbled and fell on his face, German tabloid paper Bild wrote.

Osun Accuses Lawyer Of Engaging In Distractive Activism.

By Muhammad Bashir

Osun State government has accused an Ibadan based lawyer, Mutalubi Ojo Adebayo of engaging in distractive and interloping activism by his threat to drag the government to court over non-payment of allowances owed judicial officials by the previous administrations in the state.Ya

The government through the spokesperson to the state governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed in a statement said the action does not only amount to meddlesomeness but a misrepresentation and misinterpretation of employment relationship between employees and the employer.

It would be recalled that Adebayo had issued a threat of legal action against the Osun State government over non-payment of allowances owed by judicial officials by the previous administrations in the state.

Reacting the government said: “As much as we will not wish to attribute the threat of legal action to politicization of service matters, we must remind the public that the lawyer expressly affirmed that the allowances were owed by Aregbesola/Oyetola administrations.

We can add for him that the Adeleke administration inherited from the two previous governments of the All Progressive Congress a whopping salary, pension and employment related debt to the tune of N100 billion. This is outside another state debt of over N400 billion.

We are constrained to therefore urge the lawyer to avoid distractive and interloping activism. As we believe he is not politically recruited, he should adopt another dignifying route rather than usurping labour dispute questions which only the unions and their employers can undertake.
