Harmattan And The Students Of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic.

It is another harmattan season in Katsina state and the students of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic are not left out of it’s cold bite.

During an interview with some of the Polytechnic students concerning the harmattan season, Praise Dickson from the department of nutrition and dietetics stated that this is her first time of experiencing a weather such as this, she finds it difficult to get up in the morning to prepare for class due to the harshness of the harmattan breeze in the mornings. She also added that it has affected her ability to come to class on time. Also another student Queen Jonathan from the department of mass communication said that the harmattan has taken a toll on her financially as she now has to spend more money on buying kerosene for heating bathing water as they are not allowed to make use of electronic cookers and heaters in the hostel.

The dust from the harmattan breeze has also made it difficult for people to breath in fresh air so they have to put on face mask to avoid inhaling dust which will cause them illnesses like cough and catarrh.

In addition to this, those who manage to come to class despite the harsh weather condition have to sit down in class almost freezing because of broken windows and doors that cannot be properly shut therefore exposing students to more cold and inclined health.
