NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION CHARGES STAFF AND STUDENTS OF HUK POLY TO BE BATTLE READY AGAINST CHOLERA DISEASE.

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic chapter called on the Management of the institution to checkmate the hygienic status of the students residing in the hostels to stop the spread of cholera disease.
NAM disclosed this during an interview with our reporter on 23rd Sept, 2021 on the sideline of the matriculation of the newly admitted students of HUK Poly.
In an interview with one of the member of the association, Dr. Abdul-majid Bello, the institution must be health wise by regular inspection of the students hostel to make it habitable for students.
According to Bello, Cholera is acute diarrheal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium vibrio cholera 01 or 0139.
He further said that poor sanitation, access to safe water, and hygiene practices has continued to fuel the outbreak every day.
Bello insists that students who reside in the hostel should be drinking clean water, use of sanitation facilities and imbibe good hygiene practices to avoid the spread of the disease in school.
In addition, Bello outlined some of the symptoms of cholera disease, like vomiting, thirst, leg cramps, restlessness or irritability and profuse watery diarrhea.
He warned students to avoid open deification around the hostels and to also stop eating or drinking water anyhow.
Dr. Bello advised the students and the staff to engage in boiling water before drinking, keep all cooking utensils, plates, cutleries, cups and other materials clean before and after use as he further admonished them to also cover foods, water sources, cook foods and as well to ensure that they wash their fruits before eating.
