Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic female students lodging in the female hostel have express fear over their lives and properties due to the constant electrical sparks caused by electrical glitches and this has become a reoccurring event once first semester of the 2020/2021 academic session.
During an interview with some of the students lodging in the hostel who pleaded for anonymity, those who have experienced an electrical glitch first hand and those who have not both had similar fears and concerns. Some were concerned that one day they might come back to their room from lecture and meet that their properties and other valuables have been burnt. Others shared that they are constantly changing their wall sockets and chargers due to these electrical issues almost every p and begged the students affairs and the right school authorities to look into it.
Responding to the students in an interview with the students affairs officer, said that the fire and electrical issues are caused by students negligence and disobedience. He stated that students make use of electric cookers which is against hostel rules and they do not also take caution in the use of electrical appliances and in some cases students negligence has caused loss of the polytechnic property as well as their properties. He also said they have electricians available to fix and repair all electrical faults. So if students do not make use of these cookers that are prohibited and handle all electrical appliances with care there would be no electrical faults.
