Gas and electric cookers are kitchen utensils used at homes but due to their hazard potentials, students are barred from using it. Students affairs officer of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, stated that the rules and regulations concerning the use of electric cooker in the hostel is the decision made by the school management. In addition the students affairs officer said due to the students negligence, lead to the lose of property and lives in the school, he added by stating that due to the students negligence that caused the fire breakout in the hostel, therefore destroying Polytechnic properties in the room. Furthermore, he said that all the rules guilding the hostel about electric cooker, is written down in the hostel form and students information handbook to direct and guild the students about the Do’s and don’ts in the hostel. However, students affairs officer said that prevention of those cookers can help to reduce fire breakout in the hostel.
