MASS COMMUNICATION COURSES: Which Option to choose?

Students of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic HND 1 and HND 2 mass communication department have been on the argument of why both print and broadcast students have to offer the same course and use the same classes for lectures.

In an interview with the level coordinator of HND I and 2 mass communication, Malam Ibrahim Muhammed says that both HND and ND Mass communication is being designed by the National Board for Technical Education ( NBTE) which came up with the curriculum and it is the curriculum that brought the options of broadcast and print students and that mass communication is a profession that comprises of so many other professions in it.

He further explains to us that there are two broad categories of mass media which are print and electronic media. The print media comprises newspapers, magazines and other printed materials. The electronic media comprises, radio and television and which others argued that that the online media is part of the electronic media and some look at online as a medium on its own.

On the option to be chosen, He said that the issues on print and broadcast options is an opportunity for the students to choose themselves which options they wished and also want to offer and that is a few courses that differentiate both the print and broadcast students which are book publishing and film production respectively.

He advised both print and broadcast to concentrate on their study and that only a few courses differentiate them and it will not be written in their results print or broadcast but to see it as a great privilege for all the HND Mass communication.
