MY FIRST DAY AT HUK POLY – BY ABBA BATHOLOMEW ADIKWU

Whoever thinks that they will be able to rest and enjoy life after their secondary school season, just know that your life has just started.

My names are Abba Batholomew Adikwu and I would like to share my experience on my first day in Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. At first, I wasn’t really intrigued about my admission into the Polytechnic to study Mass Communication because I felt that it would be like the school I just finished. I was hoping that I would be free to do whatever I wanted to do as long as it’s not something that will affect my life or implicate me in the school. I never knew what laid ahead of me.When I came to the school, I met with a student who also came for the same reason as me. We were directed to the central administration block for registration process after wards we were told to head to the mass communication department to get the signature of the Head of department (H.O.D.). I had no idea where the department was, so I asked around but most of the people present at that time were newly admitted students. Finally we met a student who directed us to the department. It was a long walk to the department from the central admin and I was already tired and testy and there was nothing available to get at that time. We met with the secretary of the HOD who told us to meet a certain lecturer to sign for us. We went to his office and hopefully he was present and waiting for students to sign for them. After he signed on our forms we went to the academic secretary who told us that we had to go back to the CA and meet with a certain individual known as Dapp to sign for us and then go to the student affairs for the third signing before coming to him. We went back to the CA locating the office of Dapp, fortunately for us, he was in the office and he directed us in. after he signed and registered my name, we went to the student affairs as quickly as we could. We had to wait because there was a long line of students waiting for their turn. After a long wait, it was finally our turn. Once done, we head back to the department for the final signing from the academic secretary but unfortunately we met another long line of students. We waited for a few hours before our turn came. The person went before me and I watched the process but then the person did not come with a specific document and was told to go and bring it. My turn came and I had to be really careful with my way of approach because the academic secretary had pursued some students due to their dressing or attitude and I didn’t want to be sent away. After he had registered me to the department, he gave me the registration number N18MC004. On leaving the department, I knew that the school wasn’t going to be as easy as I had first thought and so I needed to be very careful and conscious with my studies.
