The Mother Car With her Children Inside Catches Fire While She Was Shoplifting

A Florida woman identified as Alicia Moore, 24, has been arrested after her car caught fire with her children inside while she was shoplifting inside a mall in Oviedo.

Moore was charged with aggravated child neglect and arson and remanded at the Orange County Jail, CNN reported on Sunday.

According to the arrest report issued by the Oviedo Police Department, she parked her car in a Dillard’s parking lot around noon on May 26, leaving her two children in the car.

A loss prevention personnel watched her after shopping for about an hour with a yet-to-be-identified man, she saw her car engulfed in flames, dropped the stolen merchandise, and ran out of the store.

The two children were transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital and one child suffered first-degree burns “to her face and ears after shoppers who witnessed the fire helped rescue the children from the flames.

Moreover, Police said, “It is undetermined what ignited the fire, however, if Moore was not being neglectful, it is unlikely the children would have been injured.

Lawmaker representing Bindawa/Mani federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ahmed Yusuf Doro has announced plans to unemployment amongst the women, engage the youths, boost the quality of education, health, and agriculture in his constituency.

According to him, he was in his constituency recently to re-examine his people’s priority and has designed people’s oriented schemes and programmes that will be implemented in phases, and will be in the front burner of his legislative agenda.

In his view, this pilots scheme will serve as a guide of his vision and mission at the parliament to be pursued vigorously and religiously to re-write the narratives of his constituency in terms of providing democratic dividends to his constituents.

He said all these schemes and programmes will be presented to the National Assembly for capture in the Appropriation Act geared towards the development of his constituency.

He explained steps he has taken so far to nib unemployment in the bud in his constituency, including mobilising and engaging 300 women from his constituency who are resident in Abuja, who are in the business of selling chickens with the aim of engaging them in poultry production and farming in order to boost their self reliance. Hon. Doro further stressed that discussions are in top gear to finalise the cost of this scheme/project with the women, assuring that all the needed support for the project to succeed will be provided.

Flood Overruns Delta Riverine Communities

Five riverine communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State including Torukubuagbene, Awanba, Koropigbene, Itagbene, Asigborodo and adjourning clans, have all been overrun by torrential water.

The councillor representing Ogbinbiri Ward 18 in Asigborodo Community, Kenren Pere, while disclosing this to journalists in Warri on Monday, stated that the incident began over a week ago, noting that the situation worsened on Friday.

“Though rain has been falling before, but we have not had it so bad like this”, he stated.

According to him, residents can no longer go about their normal daily activities to feed, “so there is hunger in the affected communities”.

Daniel Okpor, Director, Administration and Finance, Delta Emergency Management Agency said that the agency was unaware of the development.

Okpor, however, requested for video clips of the incident to aid their findings and response.

UNIZIK Dismisses, Suspends Lecturers, Others for Misconduct

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has suspended no fewer than 14 academic and non-academic staff, and other categories of employees, including students for various misconducts and offences.

About five lecturers were indicted of various offences including extortion of students who successfully completed their courses.

One lecturer was dismissed for using a student to extort money from other students. He was said to have “brazenly” listed names of students who passed his courses as having failed with the sole purpose of extorting them.

Another lecturer in the Department of History and International Relations was also dismissed after he was indicted of falsification of results and grades in favour of a student.

Three lecturers in the Faculty of Education were suspended “pending appropriate procedure” after they were indicted for obtaining money from students in exchange for unmerited scores.

The implicated students were also sanctioned, including a priest.

The priest and another were both accused of aiding and abetting examination misconduct after collecting gratification from students.

This was disclosed in a press statement on Sunday, signed by the Special Adviser, Public Relations and Special Duties, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu.

Ojukwu said this was a sequel to panel recommendations for the expulsion and suspension of the indicted officials, including students.

Fire Incident At Supreme Court Not Connected To Presidential Tribunal – Spokesman

The Supreme Court Director of Press and Information, Akande Festus, has stated that the fire incident at the apex court on Monday has nothing to do with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

He made this known while speaking to newsmen, adding that only one chamber of the Supreme Court was affected by the fire, which was doused with fire extinguishers.

Akande said, “What was destroyed in that chamber were books, stationery, and other computer gadgets. The books are replaceable because we have an e-library.

“We have the soft copy of the books and also the hard copy which can be procured and supplied tp the chamber. So it has nothing to do with the Presidential Election Petition, as people are saying outside.

“Such issues as presidential election matters are not discussed in the chamber, inside the court.

Police Demote One, Reprimand Other Over Assault In Rivers

The Nigeria Police Force has demoted an officer, Adejoh Siaka, from the post of Inspector to Sergeant, over his involvement in the assault of a member of the public in Rivers State.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 24, police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the incident happened on April 9 in the Emouha area of the state.

Adejobi also disclosed another officer involved in the assault case, Ndiwa Kpuebari, a sergeant, was “severely reprimanded.”

A video had circulated on social media in April, showing when an officer slapped and whipped a man.

Reacting to the video, Muyiwa said, “The attention of the NPF has been drawn to an old video that has gone viral, where some policemen, on Sunday, April 9, 2023, engaged in assault, discreditable conduct, and incivility to members of the public, at Emouha, Rivers State.

The matter was adequately addressed by the Police with public dissemination of Information on Police action via a press statement with reference number CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.5/52 dated April 18, 2023.

Following complaints and a subsequent orderly room trial, one police officer, Inspector Adejoh Siaka, was demoted from Inspector to Sergeant, and another officer, Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari, was severely reprimanded for their involvement in the incident.

Additionally, Inspector Friday Obaka, who was absent from the scene, was discharged unconditionally.

It’s astonishing to see the video being widely circulated again as a new incident. We urge the general public to please discountenance the video which appears to be an attempt to bring the Force to disrepute and generate a wrong impression about the Police.

Mischief makers are hereby warned to always verify facts before rushing to make unfounded claims about such matters on social media.

The former UFC middleweight champion Adesanya Faces Three-month Jail Term For Drunk-driving In New Zealand

Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, could face three months in jail after he pleaded guilty to drunk-driving charges in his home country, New Zealand.

The incident took place on August 19, when Adesanya encountered a Random Breath Testing unit in Auckland while returning from dinner with friends.

He was found with 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood in his system, meanwhile the legal limit in New Zealand is 50 milligrams.

In a statement he provided to Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, he said, “I want to apologise to the community, my family and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at a dinner.

He added that “I am disappointed with my decision to drive, it was wrong. I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I do not think this behavior is acceptable.”

According to ESPN late Sunday, he could face up to a $2,680 fine and/or three months in jail and will be back in court on January 10 for sentencing.
