The United International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) says it’s focusing 9,000 beneficiaries of it’s cash transfer to support education programme.

Mr Muntaka Military, an education specialist in Nigeria, Kano field office made this while briefing the Commissioner for education, Dr. Badamasi Laws, on the issue, on Tuesday in Katsina.

According to him, the cash transfer would be supported by a Qater-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Educational Support Foundation.

He further detailed that the beneficiaries would be selected in Kafur, Satan’s and Mani Local Government Areas (LGAS) of the State.

Mukhtar added that the programme, tagged ‘Educate A Child (EDC) extension ‘, commenced in Aug 2021 and is to last until June 2022.

He explained that the programme aimed at increasing the demand and support for education from parents and families of Out-of-school children.

Further more, the third aim of the project was also to strengthen evidence generation to track implemention, for sustainability and replication.

Meanwhile , HR assured the State Governments readiness to continue to partner with the fund for the improvement of the education sector, especially girl child education.
