Kogi Guber: Barr. Abbas Backs Minister of Steel Development on Calls to Jettison Ethnic Agenda

By Zaharaddeen Usamatu

The Principal Partner of Z. E. Abbas and Company, Barrister Abbas has endorsed the recent call by the Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shaibu Abubakar Audu to ignore any promotion of ethnic agenda in the forthcoming Kogi State governorship election.

Barrister Abbas had in a recent interview with Fancy Media Team (FMT), commended the foresight and statesmanship disposition of Prince Shaibu towards holistic development of Kogi State, adding that the Minister is a perfect chip off the old block.

Fancy Media Team had exclusively reported that Prince Shaibu, who is the Director-General of Kogi State APC Governorship Campaign Council dismissed voting along tribal affiliations, adding that such regressive tendency is against the political philosophy of his late father, Prince Abubakar Audu.

While rendering his voice to the patriotic call of the Minister, Barrister Abbas noted that the development of the Confluence State should be the major driving force of any individual who is seeking for elective position rather than promoting sectional agenda that was the bane of Kogi State old political order.

“Politics cannot be sectional. We don’t have anything like sectional or ethnic Governor in our constitution. Granted that all states in the federation are divided into Senatorial Districts for administrative purposes. Once anybody emerges governor of a particular state, he becomes the leader of all irrespective of religion, ethnic and political affiliations. So, it’s a display of political naivety for anyone to think he can succeed in this forthcoming governorship election based on ethnicism”, he said.

Barrister Abbas who said anything short of Kogi Agenda being promoted by Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman (OAU) and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu (JOS) should be rejected, admonished the people of Kogi State to jealously guide their Permanent Voter Cards in order to seal the impending victory of the All Progressives Congress in November.

Don’t meddle in our internal crises, NURTW tells NLCb

By Isah Idris Rugoji

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has urged the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) not to meddle in its internal crises.

Acting General Secretary of the union, Mr Kayode Agbeyangi made the call in his address at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.

Agbeyangi alleged that the recent outbreak of violence at the National Secretariat of the union was due to the interference of the NLC for selfish reasons.

According to him, like the proverbial sympathiser who cried more than the bereaved, NLC has gone overboard in expressing their interest in our internal affairs.

“The NLC took a one-sided decision that further threatened our effort to unite all interests and move the union forward.

“It is very sad and unfortunate that the umbrella body of workers that is expected to protect the welfare and rights of all workers has turned itself into a tool used for an outbreak of violence and favoritism.

“Also the flagrant abuse of constitutional provisions of the union by attempting to impose the erstwhile President Alh. Tajudeen Baruwa on the union whose tenure expired on Aug. 28,” he said.

He, however, called on the Joe Ajaero-led NLC to discard their bias and ethnic sentiments towards the former General Secretary who is their kinsman.

He also urged him to refrain from further blackmailing the union in their desperate bid to authenticate illegality.

“What is expected of the congress at this time is to support without rancor, the ongoing process of organising a statutory National Delegates’ Conference of the NURTW as stipulated by the union Constitution,” he said.

Agbeyangi also said the NLC and other relevant agencies have been duly intimated through official correspondences about the various resolutions taken at various organs of the union.

He said the union expects the NLC to respect the determination of the NURTW to ensure the emergence of a democratically elected National leadership for NURTW at the forthcoming Quadrennial Delegates Conference.

Consortium supports Bauchi state govt’s food, nutrition policy development

By Aliyu Nazifi

Even Dogs Cannot Eat Tasteless Meals Nigerian Army Gives Us In North-East Locations – Soldiers Lament

By Isah and Basiru

Some Nigerian Army personnel deployed to fight terrorists in the country’s northeast region have lamented not being properly fed by their superiors despite increment of money earmarked for their feeding allowance.

Speaking to SaharaReporters exclusively, one of the affected soldiers revealed that before now, there was a provision of N30,000 as a monthly food allowance per head but there was a recent addition of N6000 (making it N36,000 per head) due to a hike in the price of foodstuffs in the market.

The soldier revealed further that despite this increment of budgetary allocation, their superiors still continued to feed them with meals that even a dog could not eat.

He said, “The cheating was so much, too much. If I am not in the Northeast, I would have resigned because the cheating is much. Let say the money they gave them for feeding allowance is not that much.

But if they are giving us individually, no soldier will spend that kind of money without releasing what he spent the money for monthly. Each one of us, we are giving N30,000 per person for our feeding allowance monthly. But they will not pay it into our personal account.

“They pay it to our COs (Commanding Officers) because they believe in a centralised kitchen, that not all soldiers will have time to cook, in case of emergency, in case of operation, in case of attack. They will be cooking the food from the kitchen and they will be taking it to wherever the soldiers are.

“So what now happened is that, even when food becomes expensive, they complained. The army hierarchy added N6,000 for everyone; making it N36,000 monthly for each soldier. So, Imagine 400 plus soldiers in a location, in my present location we are up to 500 if I am not mistaken, and we calculate N36,000 multiplied by 500 soldiers. It is going to be roughly N1.7million Naira.

“It should be to our advantage. But our food is so bad to the extent that if they give our food to dogs, they won’t eat it. So, anybody that wants to live fine among us will have to take from his meagre salary to cook.”
The source revealed further that a day would not pass that the soldiers were not made to eat rice filled with stones.

“If I tell you that we eat rice every night. If you spend two years here, then Know that you will surely eat rice for 700 something days and the rice will be filled with stones. You will take one spoon without eating stones. Tasteless, useless foods are what they were cooking for us,” he added.

BREAKING: NLC, TUC Declare Nationwide Strike

By Zaharaddeen and Muhammad

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have declared a nationwide strike starting from Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

This is following what the Labour Unions tagged as the “failure” of government to successfully implement policies to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians following the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit.

The NLC national president, Joe Ajaero, during a virtual National Executive Council meeting which was held on Zoom, Tuesday told members of NEC that a meeting was held with the officials of the TUC to deliberate on ways forward.

Ajaero noted that it was resolved that the two centres work together to make their stance known to the government.

“Initially some members did not want us to work with the TUC but as of now, we don’t have a choice. The government has not been proactive. So it is going to be a definite action this time around.”

The 21-day ultimatum given by the NLC ended last week.

The national president of the NLC, Joe Ajaero had complained that “none of the demands put before the Federal Government had been addressed.”

The union first observed a two-day nationwide warning strike on September 5 and 6 to show its readiness for the indefinite strike later in the month.

Among other things, the NLC and the TUC are asking for wage awards, implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers and a review of the minimum wage.
