WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

The world humanitarian day is commemorated to honour humanitarian personnel that are working to bring soccer to the needy in conflict or war zone areas and also pay tribute to people that have lost their lives while serving humanity.

The day which was initiated by the United Nations, also commemorates the anniversary of the bombing of the united nations headquarters in iraq in 2003 where many people lost their lives including the u.s high commissioner for human rights Sergio Vero Dmellow that worked for three decades to bring relief to humanitarian personnels.

The theme for this year world humanitarian day centres on bringing system to advocate for the survival, well being and dignity of people that are affected by crisis and for the safety and security of aid workers.

The theme also highlights the climate crisis by pressurising world leaders to take meaningful climate action for the worlds most vulnerable people.

According to the united nations secretary General Antonio Gutterious, climate is an emergency race that the world is losing but it is a race that the world can win as well.
The negative effects of climate change is already leading to the loss of lives and property across the world.

The international rescue committee(IRC) in its 2021 emergency watch list, projected an increase in humanitarian crisis across the world due to natural disaster.
The fate of conflict climate change and covid 19 is driving the crisis in nearly or more humanitarian needs.

The covid 19 pandemic and other challenges of insecurity pushing the country into food insecurity especially in the north where farmers can no longer go to farms because of the activities of bandits and kidnappers.

The ongoing insecurity has continued to force many people to flee there homes in the north and other parts of the country. Since the beginning of the covid 19 pandemic in the country last year, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in North East has continued to increase to over 10 million with another 3.8 million struggling to access food, there are over 2 million people that are displaced in the North-East, that are also in need of food, clean water, shelter, education and health care.

The Boko Haram insurgence have lead to the distraction of 66% of health personnel in Borno,Adamawa and Yobe states. The 2021 watch list should serve as wake-up call for policy makers, leaders and concerned citizens in the country for the collective approach of various stake holders including international attention.

It is imperative to know that millions of people need humanitarian assistance every year, as a result of disaster.

International co-operation is the sea show in maintaining the safety of humanitarian does not have to be travelling to a war zone, other options can be volunteering even to help the under previllaged in the society.
